Default Rough Idle problem, maybe electrical

Hi Guys, been a while since I was on but I have a small dilemma. I don't want to appear paranoid but I am becoming paranoid ok this is what is going on. about a month ago my keyless remote was sending wrong signals to the alarm, most likely a weak battery in the remote, switched the remote have 2, then it locked the engine one morning so I had to call an auto locksmith, he replaced the lead wire and the security system is behaving normal BUT now I seem to have some kind of a drain on the battery causing a rough idle. OK I ran over to sears had them check the battery and alternator, both are fine so that's not what my problem is!

I've taken it to several Dealers as well as a repair shop to have them run a complete diagnostic. Always calling ahead and scheduling an appointment for 8am and letting them know I have no means of transportation back and forth so I have to wait for the results and depending on what needs to be done if they can't do it the same day I will bring it back when they have the time & parts to work on her while I wait, which they all tell me is no problem, that a diagnostic will only take a few hours at most. OK so each place I bring her to by 8am they take one look at my mileage (26000) keep me waiting most of the day, than inform me they haven't had time to run any tests and I have to leave her that is not going to happen I'm getting tired of rushing over to be their first when they open and having to leave at the end of the day without even a diagnoses . Any suggestions.

If your remote operates an antitheft system, I would begin by removing the system. I've run into more problems with after market alarms in my career as a mechanic than I can remember

Thanks Paul, but it's not after market. Everything on her is original except for the battery & new weather strip. But my big problem is I am not a mechanic and cannot repair anything myself. But to get her hooked up to a computer to find out what is malfunctioning is the problem, as I stated.

of all forget the stealer/dealer and find a good independent shop (ask around) they should be able to very easily and quickly do what you want, for less money...

Thanks Joseph, been there, did that, same results!

Took it to a local shop, highly rated, work on high end cars, used before whom I trusted. Brought it by on a friday had a quick look see, said she was to hot to check anything that day and made an appointment for 8am the following Tuesday. 8am on Tuesday they drove me home said they would call as soon as they finished a diagnostic, Called them at 12:30 Nothing, called again at 2:30 than said " Let's do a tune up and then well check to see whats going on, you'll have to leave it a couple of days, Daaaaaaa! They never ran a computer diagnostic as they said they could, they never checked anything not a speck of dust was moved from under the hood. Yes I said dust, a lot of dust from construction at my condo and told them to check all the filters as well, picked her up at 3, another wasted day and no result.

Default elec problem

You might try these people. I had good luck with them when I was in Fl, last year. http://www.corvettemasters.com/new/index.html. A bit far for you to go, but with all your past experiences, might be worth a try. I just waited for my vette there.

Your profile does not all PM's?

Thanks D, but I'm a bit nervous to drive her that far until I know what's causing the problem. So far no stalling but don't want to risk it on a long drive.

What does " Your profile does not all PM's?" mean:o

but with that kind of "service" I would not call it a highly rated in shop, there is another word for it which I shall not repeat here.

If you can't do the work yourself keep looking around until you find a GOOD shop they are out there, ask around...

You might do a web search for local Corvette clubs and ask them to recomend a shop near you.

Been doing that, but did want to up date you and all who have been so kind to respond. I took it to another dealer this morning 8am and finally this one didn't play games and took her right in to run the diagnostic, they even let me periodically stick my nose in to see what they were doing. Which is rare indeed. Ok so this is were we're at so far: Absolutely nothing showed on the computer, everything running normal, checked all the wires, plugs, pressure, throttle, timing etc. etc/ NORMAL. Battery & alternator fine, But he thinks it still might be an intermittent problem with the alternator not running smoothly based on the volt fluctuation and vibrations at idle. Put new rings in the gasket which it did need, and did a fuel injector clean out, said gas in tank was clean but there was a little carbon buildup on the plugs but didn't need to be changed, that was fine so I didn't need a tune up after all and changed filters. Well at least I know there is nothing major going on but it's still vibrating at stopping. Guess I'll run her a bit and see if it quiets down after the fluids have a chance to run thru her. He told me to keep the volt meter on and keep an eye on her, she seem to be running between 13.6-14 but slow speeds (0-29) jumping from 14- 13.2, said if it drops to 12 at any time to call and bring her back and he'll check the alternator again. This tech seemed to really know what he was doing, explained everything step by step of what he was doing but I still want to find a good vette shop anyway, if I can't get this vibrations to stop.
Well, I'll keep you all up today as I know more. Thanks again for all your imput's.

Well 2 year's later and multi mechanics and finally found the problem Nothing to do with the electrical, the engine mount rubbers are worn causing the vib's. A 1k remedy just hope it's not another "let's try this and see".

Hello, MyBaby.......(that sounds funny) but anyhow I imagine a battery problem could make it run rough but if it's got the ballz to start it then it's got plenty of juice to make it run correctly. That's probably not the problem. What year is it and have you tried to pull any codes on it. That would be your first step and then tell the fine folks on this forum what the symptoms are, what code you have and I'll bet someone can help you resolve this problem. You don't need to be a mechanic to pull the codes. Just find a paper clip and search for how to do it. Takes 5 minutes the first time.

Good luck.

No codes to find, dealer ran a full diagnostic running perfectly they say. Ok this is the best yet, just replaced the tires "no vib's" haven't the faintest idea what the tires would have to do with a vibration at a stop but she's quite now. go figure
