I have a 94 LT1 6 speed. I installed an MSD Pro Billet and have been having off and on again troubles. When hooked to my buddies Snap On scanner it tosses out a fan fault (prob because I installed a switch to ground the relays and turn on fans which I had done while we were scanning) and it tossed out codes 36 and 29. I totally forgot what my buddy told me these meant. Bottom line is Ron told me he thinks there is something wrong with the pick up inside the distributor so MSD has given me an RMA. Do those codes seem to make sense? We checked vacuum, all plug wires, all connections. Also for the first time in 6 years it takes 10 to 20 seconds of cranking to get it to start.
Also while hooked to scanner I noticed knock numbers jumped from 5 to 52 without change in idle...bad knock sensor? Already have two on the way. Ignition timing read 19 to 21 at idle, and 32 to 34 when held at 2500, then up to 39 when floored and revved to 5,000. Do these seem to be within spec?
36 Distributor ignition system (faulty high resolution pulse or extra low resolution pulse detected)
The only one of concern is the 36. Did you set the timing adjuster to stock on the MSD?
Thanks.
Yes, we set timing to stock with MSD adjustment screw. We even ran it everywhere in between full in and full out at 1/4 turn increments.
We installed it at MSD factory settings. It never has felt right....like it was always missing on one cylinder. Tried new plugs and wires with no luck. Tossing the code has been the first real clue to figuring out what is going on with it.
