I know this has been beat to death long before I bought my Corvette, but a quick question or two:

Thepartsladi on ebay seems to not be listing ACDelco optis anymore. They list one made by Delphi.

Are the Delphis any good?

And where would be a good source for an OEM Delco replacement? Rock Auto is looking a bit pricey.

They may be pricey, but it would be worth your money to replace it with the best available.
I had my mechanic replace mine in the Vette, and when I told him about some that I had seen on that auction site, he told me that he wouldnt want to replace it with something that wasnt OEM. He said there is a chance that it would be fine, but with the cost of these things, it would be worth it for me to replace it only once in the life that I own the car. They are inferior parts, and sometimes they are fine, but for the difficulty and cost, it was worth it for me to buy the right one the first time. Just IMO.................

When I bought my MSD opti, I found the best price at epowershops.com.

MSD or Dynaspark for aftermarket, especially if you have a non-vented opti.

OEM, MSD or Dynaspark if you have a vented opti.

Maybe someone else can correct me but isn't Delphi the parts manuf for GM? Maybe since the bankruptcy they can't use the AC/Delco name any more?

Delphi did make parts for GM. Seems like I remember reading they made the OEM optis also.

Delphi is essentially AC/Delco.

When I got mine, I did a lot of looking at what Delphi opti's really were and couldn't find a definitive answer. Delphi was owned by GM at one point in time, but it appears that is no longer the case and there was a bankruptcy involved. The opti that I got said AC/Delco, not Delphi, so that makes me think there MIGHT be a difference. For all I know, they are made on the same assembly line and have different labels. I did find someone on a forum saying that Delphi's were inferior, but there was nothing to back that up. I don't think that I have seen anyone here have bad luck with a Delphi

Delphi makes the oem opti and is the only source for an oem opti. This has been covered in length on Camaroz28.com, and here. thepartsladi is the real deal, and has a good rep, some of the others on ebay, not so good.

The Dynaspark is a much more heavier made unit than the the OEM and also heard it was better than the MSD unit. Around $ 600 but well worth it. you could high pressure wash your engine with it, you wouldn't want to do that with an oem that was on the early models. They make models for both the old and the new LT1's.

Is Dynaspark back in business? I had heard they were unreachable for quite some time.
