Default Power window problem

I have an 85 with the ribon type power widows. I want to know how I could speed them up without converting to the new style motors. My problem is that my passengers side window takes 45-50 seconds to raise while my drivers side one takes about 30 second. Is this normal? If not, how do I fix the problem?

I would convert... the ribbons are a pain from what I understand.

besides, you will spend more time fixing than replacing.

the new style is much much faster.

Just repaired a slow right door on an '85. I drilled out the motor rivets, pulled the whole thing apart, regreased and reassembled and it now works fine. However, did NOT have to go that far. The REAL problem was grit behind the drive gear on the ribbon. To save a lot of work, I would remove the track from vehicle. Drill out rivet area for those that attach motor to track. I think there were three. Once motor is pulled, you can now pull off mnylon gear. Behind it is a metal gear which is attached with one of the "once on, never off" snap rings. I cut mine off and replaced with a different type from the local hardware store. Anyway, once metal gear is off and seal, you will "probably see black grit. You will also see a wound up spring that catches on the gear you removed and an inner gear. Observe where its tangs engage, since you need to put it back the same way. Now remove it, by winding it so its diameter shinks, and pull it out. Clean it up with carb cleanear or similar. Also clean out area you removed it from. Don't spray any clearner that will break down the grease inside, unless you want to completely disassemble like I did. Now grease it up the spring area and reassemble. I used screws and lock washers. You will have to grind down the screw near the track on the lower corner near the ribbon so it does not hit. I would also remove the nylon tape and clean and grease it and the trackwhile you are at it. Before reinstalling, just connect to the wire at door and run it partially up and down to see if you fixed the problem. My guess it it will be fine. Good luck.
