Skip Shift

From what I read via the search, disabling the skip shift in my 94 should be as easy as pulling the connector on the trans. As I understand the dash light will still come on (who cares) but the skip shift will be eliminated with no ill effects. I imagine there are at least 3 electrical connectors on the trans, one for the skip shift, one for reverse switch and a third for the speedo. I'm looking for a picture that identifies the skip shift connector.
It rarely activates, and seemingly only in traffic and certainly at speeds and situations where a 1-4 shift is just ridiculous. On top of that, any time it has come on and I attempt a shift it does not go into 4th, rather the stick feels stuck somewhere between 1st and neutral and the accompanying grinding is horrific. I don't know if the skip shift is screwed up or if I am to blame since I am instinctively still pulling the stick to 2nd. Other than when skip shift is active the trans shifts flawlessly. I need to eliminate it before I do harm!
edit: kinda unrelated... the carpeting (not the floor mat) seems to prevent me from pushing the clutch all the way to the stop on the floor. Is this normal? I feel like I should have very positive contact between the pedal and the pedal stop but instead I hit carpeting and it feels all wrong.
thanks,
John
