Next month Im getting my hot cam kit put in and going to have the heads ported too.Should I replace the timing chain and gears(52,000 miles)? And I also understand I should put a LT4 knock module in too.Now ,is the sensor the same ,or is it different too?
I'd do the chain/gears only because you're in there anyway. Its probably ok, but nows a good time to go with a good true roller if there's not one in there already.
I think the distributor gear is around $25, the waterpump gear is around $15, and the chain is around $20. So I'd say around $60. Definitely worth it to replace it while you're in there.

The sensors are the same all you need is the module it is located on the underside of the computer behing the small access pannel thats held on by two screws.
If you're going to replace the timing chain, you should consider getting a Cloyes HD unit, much better than the stocker. GMPP has an HD unit that is made by Cloyes, I know it fits the LT4 so it should fit the LT1 as well. The GMPP chain is part # 01237-0835, it's not cheap if I remember correctly but when you see the difference you'll be amazed!

Put the extreem duty LT4 chain in. It runs about $200 but it well worth it. The chain on my 95 LT1 was pretty sloppy and it only had 30,000 miles on it. My GS chain was sloppy also with the same miles. Replace it while it's apart.
You should definitely install the GM H/D timing set. No doubt about it. Your chain right now is loose. With stiffer valve spring settings, there will be more load on the chain and it will continue to wear MUCH QUICKER, especially with the higher rpm that the motor will turn. If you are going to play, don't short change on the items that will prevent a disaster. Make sure that your push rods, retainers, and locks are up to the new cam. More Performance has some great prices on this stuff.
Ok....Im going to go with the HD from GM unless I can get one cheaper somewhere else that is as good. Thanks guys.
Jay17...no,Im not doing the work myself.I wouldnt want to try and port my heads.Im having it done by a guy in Stillwater. He works at Mercury Marine, and does alot of LT5 heads.
