My dash lights go on and off and reset and freeze up constantly. So i thought maybe somethings loose or a wire or something. So i look under the hood and start jiggling wires. Then i get back in the car and the dash lights work, yeah. Wrong, they went out again. So i try it again with the engine running. When i jiggled this one connecter not realizing it had bare exsposed wires underneath it. Ouch i got burned on my finger.Well that made a small puff of smoke and the engine cut off. Now it won't start, any suggestions, anybody. I've checked all the fuses. I've also put electrical tape between the exsposed wires to avoid further problems. Seems like that may have corrected the dash light problem but it still won't start.
Which cables made the short ?
Maybe you killed some of the ignition parts (coil, module) that's why it doesn't start ...i hope you haven't fried the ECM.-
Hey having an 87 myself that dash going on and off its pretty normal for the 84-89 owners !!! You made a mistake with jiggling the cables, you should softly tap the dash and then it comes back, what's failing its the dash (maybe grounds) itself.-
Don't worry.
Check if you have spark at the spark plug wires
then let us know,i suspect you fried something, can you post a pic of which cable made the non start situation ???
I have since found out the wires are coming out of the bottom of the fuel pump relay. Located on the fire wall. Is it possible that i fried the fuel pump relay box on the fire wall ? Hince the reason it wont start.
