Default is this a bad CDM or what???

Ok, plugged cdm in and used two head units to see if either would work and they both did the same things.

all lights work
turn volume **** on and nothing is displayed in the area where a radio station would be.
press the volume **** and the clock would illuminate breifly.

I have no speakers hooked up at this point, just wanted to see if the system would work at least. The guy I purchased this cdm from said it worked fine in his car. Ive checked the radio fuse on mine and it isn't blown. I haven't check for power at the fuse though. My atenna is damaged so can't tell if its working by that.

was there ever a ground wire from the dash to the head unit in these cars? or could it simply be not working because my speakers and amps are not hooked up. I would have thought the head unit would work even if these speakers were disconnected.

also when trying to put a c/d in it can be pushed in but doesn't pull it in electrically like other c/d players I've had.

this is on a 90 btw

Security code perhaps? I'd look in the owners manual.

Having said that, I might be getting my years confused but I could of swore that on at least some years of the C4 the radio could be "locked" and it needed a code. My appologies if this is not the case.

on the front of the 1990 head unit it does say delco loc II .... is this something like later model theftloc? the 93 radio doesn't say this and a new faceplate I bought doesn't say this either ... If it is loc'ed how do you unlock these? I dont have a manual for it.

Yep, that's what I recall (I used to have a '90 but it's been 13 years ). The code was part of the documentation that came with the car....that had that radio. As I recall, the only way to unlock it without the code was to take it to a dealer and they need the VIN of the car it came out of.

so would the cdm be where the code is stored? and if so if the guy I bought the cdm from knows the code would this unlock it?

As I recall, all of what you've stated above is correct.

okay I figured out the problem. cdm had no ignition power going to it. I hotwired power to it and the radio came right on. however no sound out of the speakers yet.

Sometimes people didn't set the codes, hopefully that'll be the case with yours. It seems like on my '90 that the radio display said "LOCK" if it needed the code entered. Been too long
