Default ASR/ABS Light Actived--Front Left Wheel Sensor

I purchased my 1994 Corvette last year and the ASR/ABS light was on. I took it to a friend who was a Chevrolet mechanic and he diagnosed my car and told me that it needed a front left spindle assembly with wheel sensor as the wheel sensor was shorted.

He got a front wheel front spindle assembly from my local parts supplier, not GM. I picked up my car and my friend told me that it was done and the ABS light was out and a sticky valve might be causing my ASR light to be on and it might work it out when driving it.

When I picked up my car and both the ASR/ABS lights were both on. So I thought that it would be best to cut my losses and move along to another mechanic.

I recently took my car to a good mechanic who diagnosed my car. I saw the computer readouts and both rears and front right wheel sensors were working right and the front left wheel sensor was NOT working.

He made a few calls and said that he spoke with a GM mechanic who told him that the car probably needed a new GM front left spindle assembly with the wheel sensor. Due to the wrong ohms???

Well, the new assembly is $638 dollars and I would buy a new one if I knew it would fix my issue. Anyone have any suggestions???? Any help would be greatrly appreciated.

Woah!!!! And I thought $285 at Autozone was a ripoff for timken front hubs!

On my 92 I have two new front hubs on the car, with no ABS/ASR lights.

They need to show you how they tested the sensor in the hub. You may need to get it replaced under warranty. Even my timkens came with a 1 year warranty.

Thanks for responding. Yeah I thought that the price was out of line as well. I watched the mechanic this time hook up the scanner and both rears and front right indicated mph and the front left just indicated 1mph and never varied when my car was moved. I am in the same opinion as you as the spindle assembly I got from my parts store is bad. I have my car scheduled with a mechanic who deals with these types of situations and will post if he fixes it or whatever. Thanks

I had the same thing happen and a friend of mine told me to check the connector and the lines to the connector. He also told me about measuring the resistance. Well luck was on my side as I found the wire going into the connector cut. Spliced it up and used heat shrink and it cleared right up. Good luck with everything.

I agree, before buying another hub & sensor I would carefully inspect the connection and wiring leading to it. If you do need a replacement the GM part number is 12413001, it is available from forum vendors such as GM Parts Direct or GM Parts House for much less than you were quoted.

Same thing happened to me, I bought my car about two months ago and those lights were showing. It turned out that the connector had slipped off. It's definetly worth a try to take of the wheel and look if it's even connected or broken, becuase it could be an easy, and free fix.

Thank you for the response. I started digging at wires and wiring connections last night. Have the battery out of it and am tracing wires. Luckily I bought a GM service manual and hopefully I can trace the wires to find the problem. Thank you for all of your help.
