Default Self-Aligning or Non-self Aligning.... Difference?

Hey Guys. Need some help and advice once again. Can anybody tell me what the difference between Self Aligning and Non Self Aligning Roller Rocker are? What are the advantages and disadvantages to both. Are either one for a certain type of engine or application. I need some help. Im stumped

In a self aligning roller rocker you will notice that the actual roller is recessed into the rocker somewhat, this recess keeps it from slipping off the valve if properly adjusted. Technically a self aligning rocker will not need guide plates to keep it on the valve. I have both self aligning rockers and guide plates and am yet to have any trouble. Somebody told me it would be a bad idea, but I really don't think so. The guide plates keep the self aligning rockers from moving as much as they otherwise could, thus keeping the valvetrain more stable.

Don't forget the use of hardened push rods :) And it gets detailed too. Solid roller cam motors with rockers, require a lot more valve adjusting. but its worth the many more rpm a solid will give you without worrying about valve float at 6000 rpm.

Yeah, hardened pushrods are a must when used with guideplates.

I've got the comp cams pro magnum lifters, they are supposed to be better in the higher RPMS than the stock hydraulic roller lifters. I turn 6300 rpms without the bad effects of valve float. I don't know how fast these lifters will go without trouble, but it's above 6k.

What did '89 Vettes have? Non-self aligning or self-aligning? As in which would I order for the 113 head? Thanks.
