Default Half Shaft U-Joint Replacement

I did one side yesterday. What a PITA. But using the picture guide here on the forums, I was able to do it. It took us 6 hours but that was several trips to autozone and lowes for special tools. It should take me only 2 hours when I do the other side. After doing it, I would recommend several things. First do this before one goes bad. The U-Joint is a PITA to press out when it is bad. It took us an hour to press out because the rind was crushed and made it too wide to press out. Also, if you are replacing your rear hubs then go ahead and do the joints and visa versa. When I replaced my rear hubs last year it took me two days to do it, but I could have done it in a few hours if I had removed the shaft.

BTW, I LOVE MY VETTE! It is so much fun to drive!

Default u joint replacement problems

Hi everyone

Im very frustrated dont know what to do need help

the other day I tried to fix a vibration problem it felt like it was coming from the drive shaft so I took it out and replaced the u joints on both ends I tapped them in.

I spent about 2 hours trying to line up the bolts to the metal mounting cover. After I got the car back together I drove it and started making a noise as I shifted in each gear Park Reverse Drive.

I took it back apart and read in on line that the mounting cover bolts would cause damage it overtightened so I loosened them up a little.

Put car back together and it now makes a noise seems like its comming from the front of the drive shaft it almost sound like its rubbing against something.

The vibration is worst then before can anyone give me a fix

Vibration Question the only other part of the car that I worked on was the front of engine I had taken off the front crankshaft pulley to put in a distributor. Do you have to set the engine to top dead center on #1 pistion on a 1994 C4 also does the crankshaft pulley have to aliened.

Thanks
