I am getting an exhaust built but dont want it to loud all the time. Its all stock from header to cat and then an aftermarket Y with a crossover and 2 ebay mufflers.
I was thinking of going longtubes (Exotic) to 2.5 true duals with an X and two bullet cats to mufflers.
Would 2 cutouts before the X and cats net any gains? I want a really restrictive muffler to get noise down. Maybe a pair of resonator cones in each.
Is there room to put cutouts? Pics if you have them
The only place I could find to put them was after the rear axle, right behind the mufflers. I have headers, no cats, X pipe, cutouts, mufflers. It works well, and the cutouts are easy access. No pics, but it's pretty easy to understand if you look under the car.
There are all types of Cut-outs. You want the pricey ones that can be controlled from inside the cabin. You don't want to have to crawl under there every time you would like to utilize them...
And if you have a 'real' Muffler shop do the work, you can place the cut out where ever you wish it to be. (space being your limiter)

I have seen one C4 with cutouts attached to mufflers. The setup looked clean, but when you have cutouts closed, those exhaust gases were coming out only from the outer tips. The car uses these mufflers http://www.holley.com/data/types/pic...%20graphic.jpg
Here's the other cutouts
Keep in mind your going to throw you tune off, or tune it for open, then drive around with it slightly off.
I have something very similar to this setup. I custom made my own 3" dual system with Long tubes and high flow cats up front, then the pipes go straight out the back with a 3 bolt flange like pictured, then the muffler pipes are welded to the straight pipe. I welded the bolts to the 3 bolt flange that way all I have to do when Im at the track is kneel down and undo 6 bolts. It takes less than a minute and its loud.
