Default Climate control only working in High position

I have a 1985 with manual heat and AC controls. Not sure if it has been like this since i bought it but i finally got the AC charged up and am using it and noticed that the system works prefect except for the fan speed. High comes on full blast and ice cold or hot and everything in between based on how i set it but the other fan speeds do not work (Although i will get cold or hot air when moving)

I read it may be the relay but where is that located (In engine compartment or do i have to tear the interior apart?). Guess I am lucky it is stuck in high as at least I have cold air if needed but i would like to get this right.

Please advise

What gives??

It's going to be your resistor or "relay/module" for the ATC. Don't know of a location for it on a vette, but 90% of the time the "only blows on high complaint" is solved by that.

two questions then

1) Does it hurt it to let it stay on low and just let the air come in on it's own (there is some volume at air at highway speeds whihc is like the way Lo should feel) i can use Hi when needed

2) Where is the relay located

You need the Resistor Pod which is bolted to the top left side of the Evaporator Case, passenger side Firewall. The Part is here: http://parts-catalog.acdelco.com/cat...S/15-80840.jpg

Should be - unbolt it - usually a couple of machine screws.

Engine compartment - right side of Firewall on the box jutting out into the engine compartment. As far as I know, GM didn't start hiding them inside until the late 90's. For those, you follow a template in the Service Manual and cut them out - then replace and apply a patch.
