Spare tire delete?
Can someone explain to me what the structural (or whatever) differences are on a late model C4 (1996 specifically) that has the spare tire delete option? I'm curious.. I think I have that option, but I'll look after work on my list. :) Thanks,

I don't know for sure, but a friend of mine's dad has a 96 LT4 car with the spare delete. I believe it was simply the addtion of run-flat tires, which mandates the low/flat tire sensors and of course, the spare tire and I believe the spare tire tray is removed.

There is also an aluminum T-bar that is bolted in where the spare used to be. The purpose of this bar is to offer protection to you & the gas tank in case of a crash.

The tires are different (runflat) and say something like EMT ?? on the sidewall. Also besides the spare missing the the tray is missing along with the two bolted on brackets that hold the tray. Also the aluminum crash piece is an aluminum extrusion (from memory about 4 by 2 inches) formed in a rectangular cross section. In the event of a rear collision it transmits the crash forces from the rear aluminum beam behind the fuel tank directly to the rear differential, much in the same way the spare tire/wheel assembly would if it were there. These 3 are right. The bar, the Low Tire Pressure Warning system, and the Extended Mobility tires all came with the spare tire delete option. I have it also. No need for a spare tire w/ the EMTs. However, I dont know why they got rid of the jack (as if you never have to work on your car)? Luckily though, 90% of people have floor jacks... or SHOULD :D
