I think I need to replace the multifunction switch in a 91. Every thing works except I can't get the headlights to change from dim to bright. The switch just sort of flops around. I found info. in the forums for a C5 but not for the 91. Does someone have a link to that info?
The turn signal stalk just pulls out (after unplugging one connector) but that isn't going to be your problem. Since everything else works, it sounds like the dimmer switch is either broken or loosened up.
I had a hard time finding information about this area of the car also. Even the shop manual isn't all that much help. The information is in there, but it is scattered around and difficult to follow.
As a start I would suggest removing the lower trim panel to expose the steering column. I think you'll be able to see the dimmer switch from underneath looking up, and the end of the linkage rod that operates it. The other end of the rod is up inside the column and if something is wrong in there the column has to be torn down to get at it. Tearing the column down isn't too bad, but it takes a few special tools and it can be tricky to get it all back together again.
Thanks M Schumacher, that's very helpfull info. I wonder if the Corvette dimmer switch is common to other GM cars of the era? I don't want to disassemble the column then have to find some obscure part.

The switch is available at most auto part stores. NAPA, for example.
If its the same as on my 95 could be the switch adjustment. (I lost ability to switch from high beams to low after installing 8K instrument cluster...it was just out of adjustment after I dropped the column IOT install the cluster.)
