Default Revisiting the digi dash problem (solution?)

Alright, as i stated awhile back, my speedo LCD cluster is going. Well, the spread is nearing the numeric readout. After thats gone, theres no way to tell how fast im going. Alright. Well, i was thinking......I have this old digital clock. The display on it are LED's. Is there a way to hook this up to my dash to the LED display? I know it takes a hight (5V) to light each segment, but im not sure if its the same with LCD. I was going to use this as a temperary speedo readout to save some dough. Let me know if you guys think this is possible. L8r!!!!

You cannot directly connect a LED 7 bar readout to the LCD cluster. The LCD is totally different . It takes higher voltage, almost no current and not d.c. to operate the LCD bars. For the time and trouble to get a 7 bar readout to work from the LCD driving voltage, you would better spend your time looking into a junkyard LCD to replace your ailing one.

Yep, junkyard swap is the way to go. Takes 20-30 minutes to change it out and you are in business.

If you are looking for a Temporary solution.. just get a Speedometer from Autometer. I believe they sell ones that will work with the stock VSS
