OK all. i know that exhaust sounds and preferences have been covered all over but i need installation help for those who have installed the magnaflow 16837 kit themselves in there garage.
first let me say "Performance peddler" what a great place. $518 shipped for a full catback. Fransico, your are a "upper case" dude. That was one of the easiest transactions i have ever had.
Ok i know there is no such thing has a true bolt on but what kind of difficulties should i really expect? Is this a install that can be done in any average driveway?
i have all the tools needed "I think" I have hydraulic floor jack, jack stands, ramps, air tools, saws all.
i have however never raised the 96 completely off of all 4 wheels. Don't even know how to yet but i am searching. I have heard all sorts of stories about the installs. some have said its a cake walk and should only take a couple of hours and some have said do not attempt. but these are stories from apples and oranges, not apples to apples.
can i get your honest feedback
How bad could it be ? It comes in seperate pieces, start at the front and work your way back. It looks like it uses all the factory hardware so it should be quite simple. An extra pair of hands would be helpful but this shouldn't be a big deal for a novice. You could always have a muffler shop put it on and weld it up solid so it's one piece like the factory system.
Did it in a few hours after work on Wednesday. It was easy. I jacked the car up pretty high so I would have good working space. The only frustrating part was some of the band clamps were out of round and didn't want to seal. Close to insanity I almost busted the mig out to weld it. I stepped back from the brink, reworked the clamps a bit and installed as magnaflow intended. The sound grows on me more every day. There was a break-in period and the sound did get better and the smelly protective coatings burned away. Great sound, civilized volume. Seems like you have the right set of tools on hand - I used an impact, air ratchet and a few basic hand tools - nothing special required.
I installed the Magnaflow Performance Exhaust in my LT4 and all was good with the exception of the driver's side O2 sensor after the cat. The factory hole was too high, I was lucky that I was at the muffler shop, he welded the original one and made a new O2 thread.
This system is a monster, it has drone at low RPMS but it rumbles the neighborhood between 2,500~3,300 RPMS.
Hmm... mine doesn't drone at all. Not even a little, its rather quiet actually but sounds so good.
To the OP, being OBD I my car has no drivers side post cat o2. The Magnaflow setup does have a bung welded in for it though. I ended up using an old o2 sensor as a temporary solution since I didn't have a plug for it. The car does have an o2 sensor post cat on the passenger side but that stayed in the existing pipe.
PLRX, I am jealous that you have a lift! Your car looks very clean too and an LT4 to boot!
Cr#%$#^%
I started to pull of the old system and when i got to the traingle bracket that mounts to the Catalytic converter i broke the freaking bolt that threads into the converter.
Any idea's

Man, I'd be jealous too, I wish I had a lift. The picture was taken at the muffler shop

Nope, I do my own work, I took the Vette there becasue he gave me a great deal on the magnaflow system and then he said "it includes installation" ...and I smiled
