I'm looking at getting some more power out of my '84 over the winter months and am getting my budget ducks in a row. Just curious if LT1 heads will work on the old L83, or will I have to go another direction like aftermarket heads? I'm just exploring some options here. My plan is to leave the bottom end and stock cam in place, just looking to let her breathe a bit easier by adding some better flowing heads in conjunction with porting the intake and getting rid of the stock exhaust.
LT1 heads will not work on an L83. LT1 engine blocks/heads had very different coolant flow patterns when compared to the older L83 & L98 engines, making the cylinder heads incompatible between the two engines.
The most cost-effective option would be to consider post '87 L98 (referred to as 113 heads) cylinder heads for you L83. They are aluminum vs. the cast iron stock heads on your L83 which will shave off a considerable amount of weight, and they flow better too.
