My starter started to click every now and then, and is starting to get worse as time goes, to the point it clicks like 10 times before engaging.
- I was curious how much of a job is it to swap starters and where is it , I guess I could jack it up and find out , but thought it was just as easy to ask!!
There are two large copper contacts that get forced together at the end of the starter solenoid stroke that switch 12v to the starter motor. These contacts get blackened and pitted and eventually won't make a low enough resistance connection to pass the 100+ amps the starter motor requires. Continued striking with the solenoid will make a good enough connection to operate the starter motor. You can replace these contacts and save yourself a lot of money for a replacement starter.
