Default L98 Rockers-self aligning or guide plates

I have a chance to pick up a set of Comp Cam Magnum 1.6 Roller Rockers from someone here on the forum. They required guide plates which the seller says i have on my 88'/L98/centerbolt valve cover/aluminum heads.

I called Comp Cams and they said I need the self aligning style.

The seller says that he had these on his '88(using the OEM guide plates)

1) Which ones do I need
2) Can I expect a rougher idle after this mod.

Thanks in advance,

Chuck

TTT

There must be someone out there who has put roller rockers on an otherwise stock L98 :cry

If he told you that you nead guide plates then you will nead them. Because they make to type of rocker arms self alignind and not self aligning rockers and he must have get the ones that are not.
You can get the guide plates from summit for about $15
Some people on here say that if you go to a 1.6 rocker on the exhaust it will idle a little ruff that maybe because of the extra lift you are getting with them.

OKay, the Rockers you are asking about are more then likely Non-self aligning.. which will work on your 88..

BUT,

You will also need, Hardened Push Rods and Hardened Guide Plates. to use then.

If they were self-aligning you would just need the rockers.

I am also running NON-Self Aligning rockers on my 89.. but also changed the guide plates and pushrods

If they are the comp cam pro magnum, not sure i've seen a magnum, then they are not self align, will require hardened pushrods, guideplates, and most like mods to the valve cover itself. Those are rather large rockers, but I can't say i've spent a lot of time looking at a valve cover for an L98.

The factory setup has something that looks like guides plates, but the were for installation of the self aligning rockers. You will need new guide plates and hardened pushrods (some 86's came with harden pushrods)
