Mine's an '85 stock.
I've read a few comments in other threads where individuals have referred to their trans fluid temps. I'd like to know what kind of set ups (e.g. analogue or mechanical temperature guages) that some have installed - where is it tapped into the line and where is the guage located?

I read my trans temp on digital portion of my cluster (trans temp is available stock on a 95)
Yep, it's easy. Drill a hole in the pan and install a drain plug kit. Leave the plug out and screw in the temp sender. Or you can find an open plug on the case of the trans too.
That's an interesting location to install the sender...I hadn't considered installing in the pan...but was thinking that the cooling line going to the rad would be a place to tap into. Install a 'T' and run the sender off the 'T'. Do you think the temp reading on the line to the rad would be much different than the oil in the pan? Perhaps the line going to the rad would be the most accurate place to get a reading? The only trouble one might have is getting an adapter off the 'T' that would be large enough for the sending unit.

Reason: afterthought....
That would be fine. The best is in the case, mine is now there on the drivers side. Kind of above the governor area. You might just be able to remove a plug there and screw the sender in. I don't remember what it was like stock for plugs.
Aardwolf I'm glad I saw your post I'm going to install a drain plug kit on my transmission and didn't want it sticking out of the bottom, the vette is so low something could hit it.I see you put the temp sensor on the back.I will put my drain plug there.
On my 85, I used another GM Oil Temp sender and welded a 1/4"NPT bung in the trans pan and then spliced into the oil temp sender circuit with a very small rocker switch that I mounted in the forward part of the console under the cover so now I can toggle between engine oil temp and trans fluid temp in my stock cluster. I like the fact that there are no extra gauges to mount and everything looks very clean. Sorry, I thought I had some pictures of everything but I can't find them at the moment.
On my 4l60e I removed the plug for testing the line pressure on the driver's side of the tranny and screwed in a 1/8" sending unit. Works like a charm. No welding needed. Simple and neat.
If i recall correct, i remember a 84-89 owner (can't remember exact year) that got to see his trans temp on his digi dash ! not sure which wire he replaced but it was like this :
- He installed the sender on the pan,and run the wire to the top,not sure wher or how he installed a switch in the console,so when his digidash displayed for example "coolant temp" he was able to change the sender with this console switch, and he got the trans temp info there, but shown as "coolant temp" or maybe he was using the "oil temp" no sure, but the number was there.- Maybe i read this on another board or what,i did a search, but can't find anything,i always wanted to do this, but im not sure at all.-
Correct me if im wrong, maybe Aardwolf can chime in
thanks

Thanks I really like it when people include pic's
Welcome! Pictured is the front drivers side. I checked around quite a bit and there isn't that much room so choose a different location carefully.
