Default Erratic Tach Display

I've got a new issue for me that is not affecting performance at all, but is for obvious reasons annoying as heck. Once in a while, my display goes on the fritz and sometimes I can give a good rap on the dash to correct it. This leads me to believe there is a faulty connection in the display itself, but before I tear into it and search, I thought maybe someone else out there has had this symptom and found a resolution. This is a '93 coupe.

Thanks All!

I appreciate the response. I think I may pull the cluster tonight and see if there are any contacts/solders etc. that may have come apart or need obvious cleaning. It look s as though the cluster removal is pretty straightforward.

Do you recall if it's sealed or can it be opened to gain access?

Thanks - Jim

There are MANY bad reports about these guys, find someone else if you need to rebuild your cluster. I don't have the link handy but it was another 'Vette forum and there were dozens of posts by people who
had nothing but trouble from Taber.

Apparently they used to OK a few years back but not anymore.

I had a very erratic tach reading on my 84. I disconnected the wire on the distributor, reattached it and the reading was stable.

I replaced my '91 with a used one from either eBay or vette2vette (can't remember which one) and issued resolved. Didn't use the impossible to find resistor/capacitor either and it's been working perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my car has not the same wire since mine is a 92 with optispark and yours is a 91 with a different distribuitor. Nevertheless i'll appreaciate if you post a picture of such wire.
