Default Need Help with cam selection

First, Lilred is looking for a cam to use with her 84, we need one that will work well with the Crossfire, we are adding 1.6 RR's and X-Ram

Second, I am looking one for my 91, It is fairly stock, with the only major intake mod being the opening up of the intake by cutting the dividing walls back, and the 1.6 RR's

Thanks for the help guys
Lilred and NO91

Don't waste the money on the 1.6 rr's. Roller TIP Rockers's are really good at making the valve guides last, but the 1.6 isn't needed. Get the cheapest rr's you can find.

As for the cam, Crane will custom cut you a cam at any specs you want, so the 1.6 really is unnecessary, as you can have it in the cam already with 1.5's. (I believe it was J. Mackey who first pointed this out)

Think about these cams, but add a tad bit of lift to compensate for 1.5 : 1 ratio rockers, or leave them alone with 1.6 : 1 ratio.

For the L98, check out Crane's 2032 cam, http://www.cranecams.com/master/apps...6.%20CompuCam, lots-o-torque and very streetable. Its what I'm running. Be prepared for programming.

For the L83, I'm not sure, I'd assume its properties are similar to a c*rbed motor. This one doesn't sound too bad, http://www.cranecams.com/master/apps...#5.%20CompuCam
it might be a good idea to maintain streetability by converting to a roller cam, but that of course is $$$ :(

Hope this helps.

*edit* Just realized I said Roller Rockers when I meant Roller TIP rockers, if you have the money, roller rockers are good stuff. :)

I dunno, my 1.6's made a very noticeable difference in mine. I too am running the Compucam(#6 on that Crane list/link). Lost a slight amount on the very bottom end, but MORE than makes up for in the mid RPM's. it pulls very nice!

I'm sorry, I didn't explain myself very well.

If you have Crane custom cut you a cam-shaft, you can have them cut the lift at .482 intake .496 exhaust instead of getting .452 intake .465 exhaust and adding 1.6 rockers.

If you're not planning on adding a cam, 1.6 rockers are a very good investment, but remember to add them into the equation.

Thanks I would like a little more imput, and options, looking at the cams you posted, I like the one for my car, but would still like some more opinions on the Crossfire motor

Get a special ground cam that has lots of lift, and little duration. With a t.p.i., thats the only way you'll build useable power.

Oh, and yes, I would stick with 1.5s and just have the cam set at the lift I wanted.

I emailed the link for this to a friend that is also a forum member.. he has an 84 and I believe runs high 13's with his Crossfire and stock base.

He might be able to give some input
