I just changed a weak battery in my 1984 C4. Upon installing the new battery the anti theft system activated. The security light is flashing. All fuses are good to include the one behind the information center. All accessories work (horn, radio, lights, etc.) The car just will not turn over. I have tried touching the pos and neg battery cables together as well as unlocking the driver and passenger door from the outside. This car is pre VATS. What is the combination to reset or just totally bypass the security system? 3 Chevrolet dealerships had no clue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If the security light is flashing, This indicates that the alarm system is not activated.. If the light was solid this would indicate the alarm is activated..
Try This
(1)Turn the key to the on position ( The light should go out ), (2) Then turn the key to the off position the light should be ( blinking) ... (3) lock the doors with the lock/unlock switch on the door (light should go solid)....
If this functions as I say above, I do not think it is a security issue...
Let me know...
Turns out after tearing the car completely apart it was the transmission park sensor. It was fried which. In short when the car was in park the sensor did not know it.
