I took the offending shock off and discovered the little gear had lost a tooth and I also discovered the actuator had lost a piece that has the gear's tooth in it. Now I am looking at buying a new actuator. Any suggestions on where to get those at a reasonalble price ?
I called Bilstein and found out they rebuild the shocks for 55 each or 125 if the gear assy is bad. The guy recommended that I buy a new one if I need to drive the car regularly because of the three week turn around.
You can do what I did about 3 years ago. Take all 4 of the FX3 shocks and send them to Bilstein in San Diego, Ca. and have them rebuild and valved how you want to. In the mean time, get a set of regular shock and put them on, until the new ones return from Bilstein. I went and bought a new Front Actuator from Last Detail. I just took off the Actuators and tied the end of the cables with string and taped then to the frame. Be careful with the rear ones, they can fall down into the frame. I have a set of A C Delco FE1 shocks you can borrow, if you want.
Nice color vette.
