Just fitted a MSD 8225 coil in my 89 vette, did not come with silicone grease for rubber isolater and does not mention the use of it in instructions.
Is this normal, dont worry about it?
i would go ahead and buy a new stock coil so when that May Suddenly Die dies in a week or two you won't be stranded.
Sounds Like I wasted my time fitting, it did not realise the MSD Coils are crap.
I fitted a 'Jegs' 7 pin module and the MSD 8225 coil thinking I was doing a good thing, and only wondered why it did not come with any dialectric grease, only to find out that these Coils dont seem to have much support.
FWIW I ran that coil for a while without issue once I got the bushing squared away.
MSD supplies it with a high Resistance Bushing, for stock or mildly modified,Im not doubting you Scorp508 and thanks for the advice, just bit unsure still why to use a Low Resistance Bushing instead of the one they supply.
Any idea why MSD dont supply or mention use of dialectric grease on isolater????? yet any other cap(accel,GM) or coil change i've done it comes with and recommends it on the rubber isolater?

My 86 has the MSD coil and 6a box. When it was purchased at Summit in Sparks, the counter guy was trained and included the bushing and wiring adapter kit. The installation was a snap and after 5 years all is running without problem.
Decided to give the recently fitted in cap 8225 MSD coil the flick,
I've had too much feedback about failing units and "eating" dissy caps.
And following this comment from an MSD TECH
"dialectric grease on isolator, really doesn't act as a heat sink or conductor so is not required.
so applying (dialectric grease ) around the insulator or not , doesn't effect current or voltage output from the coil "
Has left me confused and goes against what I have always done and what is normally recommend?
Installing oem coil, and yes using dialectric grease on the rubber isolater.
