Just my new comp cam RR on and they look great. I was a wear of a valve cover clearance issue and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea as to what brand/type of valve cover you use, and if you use the stock what did you do to make them clear? Thank to all

Grind or break off the drip tabs and they should clear. Be carefull, the covers are Magnesium and will burn if you get them too hot.

See, I've always read about grinding off drip tabs, but I put mine on without, and they fit without hitting the tabs.

What I did have to do is take a pair of pliars and squeeze the PCV vent together some to fit between the roller trunions.

But other than that, my covers be stock!
edit: and mine are the pro magnum rollers

Thanks guys. I have the drip tabs cut but the are not flush with the top of the cover. I will have to do some work there Iguess. I also noticed the vent was hitting. I see what I can do. Mayeb I"ll just buy new ones and keep is easy/simple.

Brian, they will fit if you grind the tabs flat. I had no problems with my stock covers once I did this. Let me know if you need a hand or just an extra set of eyes to check it out. I can swing out there.

I have an '87, 383 with a SR. I have the Pro magnum 1.6.RR with the AFR 190 heads. I used the Edelbrock valve covers with no problem. They were not the tall covers, they were the standard height. They had to fit under the runners for the SR. I hope this helps.

P.S.- They are the center bolt valve covers offered by Edelbrock.

Thanks a mill guys. I will see what I can do with the stock covers. I've been kinda wanting to due away with them so maybe this is my reason HAHA you guys know how that is.

Thanks Lee. I may take you up that offer. But I'll drive out to you. I wouldn't ask you to drive that far just for that. No way man.

Thanks for the info on the edelbrock, it turns out they are the ones I asked for, for X-mas but did not get. HMMM

I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm in the middle of putting my new converter in and this new tranny is not looking good. I have about 2000 miles on this one and I noticed some gray in the fluid that had leaked out. I"ll be pulling the pan first thing tomorrow. I've been down this road to many times. I just hope it's not metal shaving. If so you may see me on the news being arrested at this point. ERRRRR I feel a 6 speed coming.

The amount of clearancing required depends on several factors with the CC ProMagnums. Including: valve tip height, rocker arm stud size, and pushrod length. First if you run the 7/16 studs, the rockers require more because the trunion is wider. If you are running aftermarket heads, some have taller valve tip height (or you may have added lash caps, or both). This will require additional clearance, not to mention that the surelocks may hit the bottom of the valvecover. The same goes for the pushrod length, you may have clearance issues.

I have found that even with the most radical of set-up, excluding shaft rockers, or girdles, the factory valve covers will fit. On the highly modded combos, I install a 1/4" spacer (machined from the centerbolt to perimeter bolt conversion kit) to raise the valvecover to gain the additional clearance. If there is a will, then there is a way. And for me, nothing beats the stealth look of factory valvecovers (obviously painted in the appropriate hue to complement the exterior paint).

Best of Luck,
Aaron
