I recently replaced the module in my hei dissy.and found some pieces of the internal plastic connectors, also where the module pushes into some of the clips have become brittle and broke away easily when touched. Is this common and cause a problem(89 with 90k)
Had a similar problem with my ignition module inside the distributor on my '89 when I replaced it with an Accel unit at 198K miles. I just taped up the broken plastic clips and used silicon dielectric grease sparingly to weather proof the connections between the metal connectors. I check the connections each time I replace the cap and rotor. No problems so far. (Currently 238K and still going.)

Definitely a common problem. I had a piece of connector break off and get between the rotor tip and the cap. Bent the crap out of the rotor tip and sheared the rotor off the shaft. I opted for a new distributor.

Speaking of a new distributor, aside from a dealer replacement is there particular replacement HEI distributor's that suit? I realize they need the melonized gear, and HEI covers what years?
