Default VATS Bypass Module

www.bakerelectronix.com sells a $25 module, among others, that generates the Fuel Enable signal from the CCM to ECM. In addition to VATS bypass, useful to bypass a suspected faulty CCM, allowing you to start and drive the car. I haven't tried their module but built my own instead.

How easy/difficult is it to install this mod? I like the fact that you can still use VATS by removing the mod.

Starting in 92 the Fuel Enable signal was no longer a fixed frequency square wave. So this won't work with 92 or newer Vettes.

From the manual.

The FEDS system operates in conjunction with the UTD and PASS Key systems. It uses a password exchange system between the ECM/PCM and the CCM after the correct PASS Key has been sampled to enable fuel delivery to the engine.

The password exchange uses the serial data line between the ECM/PCM and CCM. The ECM/PCM generates a password, scrambles it, and sends it to the CCM over the serial data line.

The CCM unscrambles the password and selects the appropriate response password. The CCM then scrambles the response password and sends it over the serial data line to the ECM/PCM. The ECM/PCM unscrambles the response password and compares it to the correct response it expects for the password originally sent.

If the response from the CCM was correct, fuel delivery is enabled and a message noting that FEDS has been successfully completed is sent to the CCM.

The VATS Bypass module has 3 wires, B+, Fuel Enable, and Ground. The Fuel Enable wire is in one of the white connectors under the passengers knee panel... quite easy to get to.

As for the new password scheme starting in '92, I'm glad I have a '91! I can understand the desire for improved security but when this stuff stops working it's a real pain as it can leave the car inoperable.

So this won't work for a 96?

According to the web site, "This module will work for all PASSkeyII type engine computers made from 1986 to 2002."

But on the FAQ page:
Here is just a small list of vehicles and years using the PASSkeyII VATS.
Corvette - pre 1996
Corvette - 1992 and 93 may or may not be compatible, before ordering confirm that your PCM/ECM has a VATS pin (AKA fuel enable or circuit 229)
