I am going to start autocrossing my car and want to add a harness bar. My concern is that being 6'3" I have my seats all the way back, slightly reclined. My head is essentially even with the shoulder harness top mount. I am worried that if I put in a harness bar, I won't fit in the car because the seat wont go back fully.
Anyone tall have experience with the harness bar? Photo's?

I have a harness bar.....and keep my seat far back. The seat doesn't come in contact with the bar.
Gary from Hardbar sell a harness bar with extensions that move it back far enough so there is no problem. Its what I have in my 86 and I'm very happy with it.
I'm 6'0" and my seat definitely hits the bar when I fully recline. I thought it was going to be problem but it turned out that my seating position on track was significantly forward of my street position.
And FWIW, forward also meant slightly more elevation and my new problem was the helmet hitting the roof. To solve this, first I upgraded to the glass top (about 1.5 more inches and less weight too!) and took a rather worn cloth seat bottom-cushion out of the trash can at Carlisle one year and I pop it in and out for track events.
Then I got wise and cut a hole in the middle of it and remounted my sub-belt to the proper location and pull it through the seat

All the other bars have these funky attachment to keep them from rotating, his doesn't
I have a vert with a R&D cross bar brace, and that has nothing behind the head.
If you have a vert I am going to sell mine.
pologreen1 are you selling your crossbar. Noted that R&D lists my year as a seperate size. Is your bar the 45" or 47"? My car is in the shop getting AC work so I will have to go over and measure. Apparently it could be either / or.
Team, appreciate the inputs. Decided to chose an Arizona Speed, Inc harness bar. Besides looking cool, it only cost $366 with shipping. Comes with the camera mount and fire extinguisher mount included at no extra cost. Went with Pyrotect 5 point latch harness and Pyrotect full face helmet with a Snell M2005 rating. JC Speed shop waived the shipping and it came to $215 for the helmet and belt. Had a little budget left so Motovation racing is doing a custom skinz for the helmet that will have my solo #, name on the helmet and the corvette racing flag on the back, all in blue to match the car. Not bad for $35.00 with shipping. Knee is recovering slowly from sugery but should be ready for my first event in November at California Speedway. (The advantage of living in california events year round).

Glad it worked out. I did not notice your post to me until now. It won't be forsale until I get my roll bar in.
Well, have to admit I am bummed out. Ordered my Arizona Speed and Marine Harness Bar, only to have them cancel the order. Because of the bad economy they haven't replenished thier inventory and are out of stock. They don't have a projection on when they will make more. Am really bummed. Besides looking cool, and having a great mounting system, they came standard with both the camera mount and fire extinguisher mount for $344. $400 if you went through Corvette America or Ecklers. (they drop ship so ording from the catalogs doesn't help). Endied but going with the R-D Racing unit. Cost more, not as cool, and doesn't come with the fire extinguisher mount but nice enough unit, and it keeps me on schedule to debut the car at Auto Club Speedway Cal Club SCCA event in November.

Sorry to hear that, I have the ASM bar and like it. I bought it used on ebay (or maybe here, I don't remember) for like $150. Keep your eyes open, they pop up.

I know this is an older post, but you might reconsider your location of the fire extinguisher. I don't think it will pass Tech at some events if you can't readily reach it while planted in the drivers seat. I had to relocate mine with the drivers seat track mount, directly below my knees.

That is where mine is going to end up. When I went with teh R&D harness bar looked at their other pieces since the fire bottle mount didn't come with the harness bar. They make the fire bottle mount as part of the 5 point harness sub strap mount. i.e. mounted to the front of the seat rails. I may also add one to the passneger side, although I haven't decided to put a 5 point on the passenger seat.
Although you have ordered a helmet, IMHO, you would have been better off with a helmet with a Snell "SA" rating. SA helmets are for motorsports use. "M" rated helmets are for motorcycle use. Did you check with the event sanctioning bodies to make sure an M rated helmet will be OK? Some allow them, some don't.
I have a RD Racing harness bar and I mounted my fire extinguisher to the bar just behind the passenger seat. I can reach the release clips without turning around in the seat and while still in my harness. The bracket is a metal one and mounted so releasing the extinguisher allows it to drop into my hand. Also check with sanctioning bodies on the bracket type and material as some won't allow a plastic bracket (like the kid you get on the cheap dry chemical extinguishers at Home Depot or Lowe's). You should be able to get metal brackets at boat shops.
Mounting an extinguisher down low in the front of the seat may cause it to be very difficult to reach if you are wearing your harness. The shoulder straps are designed to hold the upper body into the seat back and not allow for forward movement. If your arms can't reach the bracket when strapped in, then you have to take an extra step to release the harness.
Also check the SCCA regs for multi-point harness use with stock seats. Depending on the type of event, you may have to have a race seat with holes in them to have the straps pass thru them. IIRC, Porsche club events require this and if you decide to do track days, it may be a requirement that the passenger seat be set up the same way as the driver's seat.
