Default c6 calipers on a c4

I have a chance to buy some c6 brake calipers real cheap. Will they work on my 1986 with little or no mods?

I think if you are handy and innovative you can do it, but you will need brackets and all kinds of crap on an 86, that is the lowest starting point fo brake sze and such.

I can't say for sure, but I know even c5 brakes need fab work.

They will fit the same as C5 calipers, of which there should be plenty of information around. There are adaptors to fit them to '88+ cars, but I'm not certain about the pre-88 cars.

They should, the C5 brakes bolt up with the right adapters to any C4.

This is more info if you just search, the only difference is the size of the calipers, they may be a bit larger as they had a small redesign from C5 to C6 to increase stiffness. You can always buy the C6 calipers mount them up and try them and if they don't work sell them and pick up C5 (black) or C5Z06 (red) calipers and they will work.

You need to contact someone who makes the adapters, Jeffvette for instance.
Buy 2 C5 front brake rotors.
Front pads for C5 brakes.
A lot of people switch to braided lines during the swap from Earls or the like, not necessary.
A lot of people also put in speed bleeders to speed up brake bleeds, not necessary.
To balance out the system, you also can swap out for a better brake bias spring available from DRM:
http://www.dougrippie.com/
http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/brake_...eBias%20Spring
(You'll need snap ring pliers to install this. Not necessary but cheap and worth it.)

Then bleed the brakes and you are good to go.

Fitment:
16" stockers NO
17" stockers.... this I am not sure on, assume that you will need a 1/8" space some people have reported that the cuisinart wheels and I think maybe 92 sawblades can fit them, but I can't confirm this.
OEM/repro Zr1 Amolds do fit fine
