My tilt steering wheel or column has some play in it. It's not the main hold down nut under the Air Bag, or the dash support bracket. It has side to side and up down play. Not much. Just annoying sometimes. While getting a four wheel alignment at the local Chevy dealer I asked the Tech about it, He said it was a common thing on later C4's ('92). He said some bolt(s) comes loose in the column and you have to take it apart to ge to it. Big Shop rate special tools etc. and two hours to do it.
Thought I might ask if anyone has gone after this problem and what the deal is to fix it.
Saw this article a month or so ago. It's was in Car Craft. Follow the link. Don't know if it's is effective. Typically these are cursory overviews but you can get the idea.
I will be doing this this winter. I too have an annoying looseness in the steering wheel.
I have done this repair many times and the dealer tech is correct, a couple of special tools and 2 hours. There are 4 small bolts below the pivot point that come loose.
I just did it two weeks ago. When I got it apart I needed a new tilt housing, made it alot more work. I used a website step by step directions and they are great. I did website search for domestic misfits corvette column and it was the 2nd or third link. It was way better than the manual.
