curious to know what you paid. there have been vendors in the past that have sold the new magnaflow exhaust system SHIPPED for something in the neighborhood of $500-550. I purchased mine in that price range as well using the partpeddler.com, or hottexhaust.com

both the above vendors had a coupon code that would knock off $200 dollars from the price and ship for free. this was several months ago. Although if you do a search on the Lt-x kit magnaflow part number (#16837), you'll come up with the coupon code for both sites (possibly still active).

i hope yours fit better than the mess i am going through what a waste of time and energy. They must have used a wrecked car with a bent frame to make the jigs.. I was pretty pumped buying the system but now stock is starting to sound real good at least i would be driving rather than wenching a POS box of pipes..that fit nothing...

I bought the Magnaflow Performance Cat-Back Exhaust System - Dual Rear Exit, Stainless Steel (#15623). The MSRP is $634.03 + shippping. Several dealers have been offering these for $415 + shipping (Corvette Central's shipping is the cheapest @ $18.xx). I got mine for $352.75 (free shipping).......

that's rare? I don't really hear much problems with either kit. Of course, I've got the full cat-back system. It was pefectly fine? Didn't have any issues and neither did the sworm of guys who bought the kit at about the same time.

sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. Maybe you should have contacted the vendor and gotten a new/different set?

I have another thread going about this so won't repeat it here. All I can say is magnaflow tech is a joke at best suggeting stupid s**t for a fix with none to fix other real problems. Even worse they lie, said no one ever had an issue with the system and my 5'th call and never logged.. Their 86-91 system must fit something but does not fit a 91 coupe with an A4. I have 12 hours of fighting it and calls to them and the vendor that sold it. Sent a second system that is better but does not address real problems. A good friend of mine said just spend the money and buy borla it fits every time wish I liked the look of it but back to stock for me then custom over the winter.

geez sucks to hear. Why even hassle with trying to get it fit?? Just send it back for another one, or for a refund

Sending 2 systems back from Magnaflow that do not fit. Called a good friend and he suggested Borla while more money it is a sure fire for fit and finish. So going that way. Disappointed girl friend with no cruising to Vermont this weekend after missing car show last weekend. Hopefully she will be up for it next weekend..sigh. If the Borla system does not fit which I doubt as a problem I will just put some Walker parts on and sell the car this is way too much hassle for an exhaust system..

91 is unique in stock form, the rear y is slightly different because of the bumper change.

I have Borla on my 90. Installed in 30-45 min, on ramps.

You got a great deal, they are currently showing this system at +$700 after the discount from what I've found so far!

Just take your car and that system over to a "real" muffler shop....

Someone has posted the '91 is a unique fit......A real Muffler shop can tweak things and have it fit right within minutes. I've purchased components from Magnaflow and had my local shop "build" custom pipes for less than what you are paying and in less time.

Mufflers and exhaust are sorta a "fitting" type thing. Pros will basically build the Pipes to fit the car and make sure everything is tucked under properly with the right flanges and the rear silencers not protruding past the bumper etc.

I applaud you trying to do it all on your own. But I just view this sort of thing like trying to mail order a new water pipe for your house......it's just better to have a plumber come out and fit the pipe properly.

I use Fantasy Muffler in Buena Park Ca. I know this doesn't help you but.....

For reference for anyone else with a 91 and the only Corvette I have ever owned so i can not comment on other years.. It has an approximate 1 1/2 dip down in the 3 inch pipe after the cat to clear the e-brake cable. The magnaflow system is traight back off the cat and the pipe sits against the cable and painfully close to the rear end. Maybe the way to look at it is the y-pipe and cat is 1 1/2 inch higher tucked closer tothe body and engine. I would have taken it to a muffler shop but they are in general hacks around here and custom anything comes with a Corvette tax..

When mounting these, a 1/2 " cut makes a difference in how they hang. I opted to let the experienced guys at the muffler shop install them, and drove away a few bucks lighter, but Very happy !!

I had a 3" Magnaflow system that I put at the end of Melrose headers, Rand Technology bullet cats, and I had to take the Magnaflow off. Too loud, I guess 3" was too much of a diameter. You could hear me coming 1/2 mile away, and the drone inside the car was ridiculous. I'd try and ride in a car that has that system before buying. Wish I had.

Best of luck,
Joe B.
