Neither, the top is glued on. The frame is the stiffener in this case.

The painted one seems stiffer to me and that goes for the 4 different C4s I've owned.
Opinion of a tired old road racer.

yes but the glue and the substrate (the panel) does participate in the whole picture, remove the top plate regardless of material and see how the frame alone holds up, my guess not very well.

just as i thought, the glass top always the first crack, from the stories i read here, mine included and i never heard of a fiberglass top giving way,

my guess is while the fiberglass is not a whole lot stiffer, it may just be a little bit.
