Default another digidash problem

Well as i was going down the Interstate friday afternoon, my digidash went out completely, the numbers were still displayed but the lights behind it all went out at once, they are new lights though. About five minutes later, they all came back on, WTF? I thought it might have been a fuse but then it wouldnt have come back on would it? any ideas?

It sounds like a bad connection in the harness that plugs into the dash. The little connectors can loosen up-I just had a vss code that I solved; the dash displayed the mph fine, but on a scan tool the ecm couldn't see the mph. The output wire from the dash to the ecm wasn't making good contact. First make sure the wires are pushed into the plastic connector and not loose. Then you can gently pry the pins on the dash further apart with a wide blade screwdriver to tighten up the connection. Key word is gently!!!
Hope this helps.

Most likely you have a connector problem. There is a single row of pins that connects the two circuit boards in the cluster together. The pin closest to the center of the boards carries current to the 4 lamps and age relaxes the socket spring on the upper board causing connection resistance . The large current flowing through this resistance makes heat which further weakens the spring and the lower pin gets so hot it unsolders itself. Socket replacement will fix it, or , even easier, I soldered a small (#24) insulated hookup wire between the pin and socket and my lamps will never go out again for that reason.
