Default 88 Convertible Stalling Issue

I was driving down the highway this morning and out of no where, I wasn't getting a response from the car when I would hit the gas. She slowed down from 60 to 36 and then kicked back on. As I continued down the highway, she stalled again and this time didn't kick back on. The gauges don't turn off, I just get no response form the engine. Now I've had this problem before, and replaced the Pick up coil about a year ago. But I can't imagine it being that again, considering the part is practically brand new. I talked to my mechanic who suggested it might be the distributor. He gave me a good price on replacing it, but I just want to make sure that's the right move to make. If anyone has any thought, or has had this problem too, please lend me any information you can. Thanks.

Well I had a simular problem with my 84 vette,

Cruising down the hwy & go to give it gas & it would feel like it was out of gas, then it would kick back in then would do it again...several times this happened..

It turned out it was the fuel pump,

Every time the fuel pump would warm up, The car would act up.. Once I changed the fuel pump all has been good since... I would check fuel pressure first...

I am no master mechanic & don't want to steer you the wrong way..

Wait & see what some of the other members say, They will chime in & help you fix this issue...

Ant...

On the passenger side of the engine top, look for the tire-valve-like thing on your fuel rail. Next time it stalls out pop this with a key or something and see if you have good fuel pressure (realize you are preparing to spray fuel around). If you do, it's probably ignition (new parts fail too). If not, fuel pump or wiring.

Our 88 developed a bad connection at the bulkhead where the wiring enters the tank - a real pain to diagnose. Heard of at least one other 88 with the same problem. If you're unlucky enough to be the 3rd, you can drill a new hole and string new wire, or buy a sending unit assembly.

More likely would be the fuel pump.
