Just went through the Mar 02 CarCraft mag and read the article on their "Mean Mouse: Chevy 406". I saw some spec errors that their proof-reading department should have caught.
Can anyone else find them, or is it just me?
Hint: Check the engine blue-printing and camshaft specs.
I just sent CarCraft an email listing of all the errors I found. It'll be interesting to see how they respond.
I want to see if they choose the old "attack the writer method", the old "dance around the error" method or the seldom used but refreshing "Yea, Jake, we blew it" method.
I've noticed a lot of car mag errors, lately. I was thinking that there was more wrong than the cam specs. I might be adding those mistakes to others I've seen recently. I would have to pull that CC back out to double check. I used to get all excited and mentally prepare to write, but *I* know better, no point in aggravating myself. I got the point of the story. I DO feel sorry for those that rely on the misinformation to build an engine, though.

Me too, become some guys look on these articles as they do a bible and often use those articles as reference when making a point, etc. "Well, so and so said in his article . . ."
There is a lot good info in the mags, though, but one has to have a working knowledge of an engine to be able to recognize errors and bad info when they do pop up. Otherwise you won't really know what's actually true and correct and what isn't.

that is SO true... a friend of mine 13 years back or so, rebuilt his Pontiac T/A's 400 Pontiac motor... he rebuilt it with a Hot Rod article in question... how to build a SBC with no gaskets... oh, ya, that worked good... up until the RTV popped and caused a oil/coolant milkshake in the oilpan...
