right after i got my LT4 i had the resonator muffler removed and replaced with 2 straight pipes, i now have true duels......
i've seen the talk about x's and h's..... is this for real ???? is having an x or h installed better than true duels...... what i've seen so far is that x's are better than h's... ??????
my muffler guy said he could customize an x for me with no problem for less than $100.....
is there really a $100 benefit here ???? i just want to make sure before i do it.... (if i do it)
It's better to run something than nothing. I noticed a huge jump when I went from "true duels" to an H pipe on my Big Block Olds. I know I have a hot rod mag or two with dyno pulls comparing the various combinations in piping size and connections. If u want I can dig it up, but for now it lays at the bottom of my closet. Plus my H did add a better sound, and I've heard that the X adds an Indy car-like sound.
Re: X, H, or true duel ??????????? (XtremeVette420)
thanks all...... i'm going with the x.......
BTW my exhaust is still original stock except for the removal of the resonator muffler and at the same time i had the LT1 tips replaced with chrome double ovals...
Re: X, H, or true duel ??????????? (XtremeVette420)
I wouldn't exactly call mine and indy like sound, but then flowmasters won't ever sound like indy. There are some links in my sig above if you are interested.
No flames intended. You still don't have true duels. The LT4 has a crossover pipe right in front of the rear differential. The LT1 exhaust does not. Just FYI in case you didn't know.

Where'd ya get that info from? My LT4 has stock exhaust. No H crossover in front of rear or behind. There is one between the resonator and engine I believe. Would have to look again to be 100% sure. I'm sure the H was taken away along with the resonator when removed. That would give him true dual all the way back. From what I've read the X will give a around 3ft torq. One of the vette mags did a test on a C5.

Crawl under it & check. Mine (very much factory right now) has a small h pipe right in front of the rear diff. about 16" BEHIND the resonator. The LT1 exhaust does NOT have this. No joke. That's how I was taught to spot a LT4 exhaust from the LT1 exhaust if it was not on the car.
I can tell you 100% without a doubt that the LT1 does NOT have a cross over stock. I have heard that the LT4 does, but I'd forgotten about it. In any case, an x is better than an H :jester
Had my x installed over the weekend, they put it where the old resonator muffler used to be.
And i'll be damned, there is an H right before the diff. Where did that come from??? Been under there 4 or 5 times now and i've never noticed it.
Oh well. Now i have an X and H. At the time i figured both would be better than just having an H. But something tells me that from the responses that i'm probably going to get from this, that i'll be going back to have the H removed.
