Dear Sir,

I am having an issue getting my ‘86 convertible to pass emissions testing. In the State of Connecticut they test for 3 gases; NOX, HC, and CO. Both the NOX and the HC’c are within limits, but I am unable to get the CO to pass. When I started the CO registered at 1.29 after 8 or 10 bottles of Sea Foam and changing the oxygen senor we have been able to get it reduced to .76. But this is still above the allowable limit of .28. Currently I have a GM Service Manager telling me to change the EGR Control Solenoid and I have the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) inspector telling me to change both the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the heat sensor.

As you know the solenoid is almost impossible to find, but I did locate one in Florida which I will install when I receive. I am doing this because we have been able to determine that the one currently installed in my car is not working.

My question today is; what do you recommend that I do next to get this car through this inspection?

[Thanks guys for any help or ideas you can give me to pass on to him]

How are the test run in Conn? How old is the catalytic converter? The EGR would have no effect on CO. FPS or temp sensor could.

I agree with Paul. Put in a fresh converter and throw the stuff in the fuel tank that cleans up the exhaust for emissions testing. Good luck.
