I hope that there is nothing that prevents either you or me from attending
the NHRA div. 7 finals. ESPECIALLY, ME! If you have better options than
participating in the Summit Bracket Series, so be it. Besides your DA's, I'm
jealous of your quanity of track choices. Two to three hours drive isn't
exactly convient, but MY closest alternatives are all 350 or more miles away.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. Nice start!
Warlock,
Based on your pictures, you ought to go and do more than WATCH!
Good job there Beach. That car runs it's typical numbers which is always good. Too bad you're so far away...well.....maybe thats a good thing. JP might get yours and ralphs cars confused  :jester
Just come out and race...its fun and casual stuff. We'll get you running to where you should be in no time at all.
CFI-EFI,
I have two different Summit series to race in... IHRA or NHRA.... I really love racing in the NHRA Summit series, but the IHRA is really putting together an attractive program to race in here in socal... especially with the contigency and money payouts at each points event. (Its nice to be paid if you have a good day of racing:)) But maybe I can make a few of the NHRA events and with some lucky racing, maybe make enough points to qualify for the team..... however, on the flip side with the Division 7 finals up at the no-name track in Northern Nevada, a bunch of socal racers have already said they will not attend this year. I think they need to break up division 7.... and create a new division 8 consisting of Vegas to San Diego..... they wouldn't have to worry about car counts.
All of you east coast racers,
I think I'm an east coast racer trapped on the west coast.... what you guys have nurtured and evolved the Corvette Challenge into is extremely impressive !!! I'd love to be a part of it..... but I'm trapped out here for now. :( But you never know with me.
The Dude,
Hows the Land Orange coming !!! Any progress ?
Bruce,
Pull that 200 shot and you would probably be a lot more consistent than me..... thats one of the reason's I don't run nitrous, hard to be consistent. Zero racers in the Outlaw series run Nitrous. But the stuff is probably a lotta fun. :yesnod:
I've heard about the IHRA Summit Series, but other than being aware that it
exisits, I don't know anything about it. I guess it really doesn't matter to me,
being 350 miles from the next nearest track, like I mentioned above. After
that it's 500 miles to the next two, and all three are NHRA. I couldn't even
guess how far the nearest IHRA track. Probably the one you're running at.
If I remember correctly, Top Gun Raceway (Fallon, Neveda) got an award last
year for the most improved track in division 7. I still wouldn't write off the
finals. They were scheduled for Bakersfield last year, and as you know, they
ended up in Las Vegas. It wouldn't supprise me to see that happen again,
this year. Wait until they put them in Salt Lake City. Then EVERYONE will
have a monster drive. If they split division 7, like you suggested, Where do
they put us? Strange as it may seem, the LACR drive was shorter for me
than the Sears Point drive. Either way, I think anything over 500 (600?) miles
is too far. If memory serves me, LACR was about 7-750, and Sears point
was a little over 800. No matter WHAT they do, they aren't going to please
everybody.
The IHRA is only now coming west... the next closest IHRA track is I believe New Mexico, however, they just announced the addition of a 6 or so more sanctioned tracks, don't remember where. They are on the move and trying to make a strong move west of the Mississippi river.... in time I think they will have a strong foundation out here. For my racing choices, Carlsbad is the only 1/4 mile track within 3 hour rountrip for me offering any type of a true season points series with National title implications. However, for my true racing enjoyment, I have to look at the fun factor of racing week to week vs the once a year Divisional final race. In otherwords, while the NHRA has a superior divisional championship event, the IHRA will be a funner and more complete racing event for me week to week. If I lived anywhere else but Orange County, California, the situation would probably be reversed.
I just looked up Top Gun Raceways location.... about 50 miles east of Reno as near I could tell and at a elevation of 4000 feet (bleck :bb )..... but I would still consider if do race at Irwindale.... I could probably donate a paycheck or two to the good city of Reno while I'm passing through. :)
I'll figure it out in due time.... for now, the only thing on my mind is this coming Sundays club type racing event. I need the practice.
good luck this year.... hope you win the track champsionship and the race of champions again... that's two Corvette forum members who won their divisional race of champions race, I hope to be the 3rd someday.... ODennis who replied to this thread above was Bandimere class champion, Colorado racer of the year and then he went on and won the Divsion 5 race of champions this past year, he obviously had a dream year..... I hate him. :D
Beach, hope springs eternal. I've completed the re-bearing and re-ring job and it sits on the stand ready to go. I'm ordering up a cam tomorrow--going to try something different. Nothing fancy or extraordinarily radical, just different.
I've got a little brazing job to do on the oil pump pickup and, with a some help from the UPS man and a couple of weekend all-nighters I ought to be back out there with Problem Child in a couple of weeks.
Todd:
You have got me very interested now! I want to play too, and win as well.
When is the next outlaw race scheduled?
Bruce1
Bruce, the next Outlaw (Which is going to be the IHRA Outlaw Summit series starting in April) is the 1st week of April.... from there on out they will be the last Sunday of every month, however, they will have at least 2 and probably 4 or 5 additional events in the middle of the month. They promised to update the webpage in the near future.... they still have ironed out all dates yet. Normally they would have a event at the end of March, but due to the Super Chevy show at Pomona in the middle of the month and Easter at the end, they are not having it.
Are you going to the SRA event this Sunday ? If yes, we are going to have to have a duel. How about Mike, have you heard from him lately ? I think he's out of town, but not sure.
Jack, Great to hear of progress, its not the same out there without you.... come on out to the SRA event Sunday and I'll put you in the seat for a pass. btw, what cam specs ?

230/236 @ .050"; .510/.520. It's gonna want gears. But let's get it un-f***ed first.
Thanks for the good wishes. And the accolades. I have high hopes for the up coming season. What could be better than you and me paired up in the finals for the shot at Pomona?
I understand the practicalities of choosing a track and series to race. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
Pass through Reno? From what I've heard lately, those of us without campers will be STAYING in Reno. Fallon, Nevada isn't really a major metropolis. It isn't even on the interstate. At least there is only a minor adjustment in altitude for me. I think it's a tic lower. Don't discount the possibility of a schedule (location) change. Can you imagine the effect 700 plus racers would have on the jack rabbit population?
I wish track championships for you too. You have one hellva start. Keep hammerin'.
