Default Abs

I have read a ton of threads here about the ABS and what it may or may not do to cause problems braking normally. I read my 91 service manual and if it has any codes it does nothing at all. Basically from what I read into it you have normal brakes and the wheels get whatever pressure you produce by stepping on the pedal and the front to rear bias is set by the spring. Going by that thinking it leads me to believe that pulling the ABS fuse just diables the system but you still get full braking to all wheels though might get a lock up situation at times. Does someone that knows more about ABS than me give at least a short explanation of what internal fail can occur in the ABS that would limit braking to less than normal. All that I can think of is something stuck in the closed position not allowing brake fluid to one of the front wheels or both or both of the rear wheels. If one front wheel it should pull like crazy on brake application so the only choices I see is both fronts or botrh rears. I had read in all the posts though I don't remeber which one that Gordon Killibrew suggested pulling the fuse to check if ABS was faulty as normal braking would return less ABS feature.

One suggestion is that you just stump on the brake pedal really hard so the wheels really lock up.
Try it on a wet road or on gravel.
After that, see what happens when braking normal.
I tried it on my 91 (70K miles) a few times and I must say that the brakes feel better/respond better now than what they did before.
All I ever replaced was the rear discs and front and rear pads.

Does the pedal go down more than normal to the floor ? If so this could be a brake booster situation, I felt like the car was not braking like normal. Changed the brake booster myself, got the aftermarket part from eklers and saved a ton of money, it fit perfect and i think it looks better because it comes in gold steal intead of black plastic.

First 1/2 to 3/4 feels like any other power brake and then the start getting stiffer. PO did brake pads and seemed pretty pround of it and srewed everything else up he touched or cheaped out.. So new pads rotors hoses and brake fluid and evaluate from there..
