AC o-rings ?

AC o-rings ?
I have two different type o-rings for my R12 AC system. The original o-rings are black and thicker than the new thin green o-rings. Are the new green rings for R134a and the thicker rings for OEM R12 or does it matter?

I'm no a/c expert but I can say that the green ones seal good. I've converted my car to 134 and replaced all the original o-rings with the new green ones. It's still holding after three years.
