A search on the net "OBD 1 codes"..... a code 42 = electric spark timing circuit grounding. I don't have your FSM for a 1992. Check your codes in the FSM for a code 42.

Post a question....Don't have a FSM for a 1992....I have a DTC code 42???? Please help.

could be just the connector under the hood making a bad (or no) connection, on my '91 it's tan/brown single wire with a connector right near the power brake booster.

The code is set by a lack of Electronic Spark Timing signal to the ECM. This is a white wire between the ECM and ignition coil driver(pin 12in the yellow or grey plug at ECM to pin B on the ignition module). Check your wiring between your ECM and ignition module including a close check of the connectors. The wiring is likely good but if you have had a connector gasket fail there could be corrosion in the connector causing a failure.

You could also have a short between the high and low resolution lines from the Optispark. This also could be a wiring/connector issue or a failed Optispark. It is hard to say.

This may be a simple problem that is difficule to track down. A factory service manual would be worth a lot to you at this point.
