Several years back I changed out my gear oil. I purchased the GM additive at a dealership and they sold me four bottles. Since that time I've read several posts on this topic and they always refer to adding TWO bottles of the GM additive. Did GM sell the additive in smaller bottles and that why I they sold me four instead of two??? I guess the bottom line is if indeed I have twice the amount of additive then specified is this a problem???
It's just something that been in the back of my mind for sometime and although I've not experienced any issues with the rear, I would like to know you opinions.
The problem is if you don't put enough in. But it won't take long to hear it telling you that it needs more....WW
After driving a while I experience some squealing from the rear end when making a left turn. Do you think this is additive related or is my clutch pack gone? TIA and sorry about the hijack but WW7's comment makes me wonder.
I only put one bottle in to the 1 1/2 guarts of gear lube.I hope thats enough,so far so good on mine, only put 500 miles on since the change.
I would assum it's enough because from what I understand most gear lube has limited slip additives in it.
I would say call the dealer that sold it to you and ask them if your 4 bottles was to much

What I have experienced when there wasn't enough additive put into a posi rear is that it would chatter and skip when making a turn. In other words you could feel it jumping around the turn instead of turning smoothly and slipping like it should..If your not sure, why not add a bottle of additive to the rear and see if it changes. Some rear end lube does have additive built in, but unless it says so on the bottle, or you know for sure that it does, put in the additive....WW

Yep, one time I did not add it and when it got hot the posi turned into a locked rear end. Just like having a spool.
No, dont have any lock up, just some squealing in a left turn after it heats up. No telling what the PO did, its probly time to service it anyway, I will siphon and refill and see if it helps. Thanks!
