84 instrument cluster woes
i did a search in teh tech section but couldnt find the answer i am looking for. the cluster in my 84 randomly dims severly and the bright light indicator and the turn signal indicators illuminate. sometimes tapping on the cluster surround will bring the cluster back to life. i'm curious if there are any other forum members experiencing this issue or that have experienced this in the past. i would like to rebuild my cluser or fix the issue myself. i'm not into paying in upwards of $400 for a rebuilt cluster when i know that i can repair it myself. i just don't know where to start and i'm seeking advice.

It sounds like a ground issue, here's a link to Batee.com, he has some cheap DIY fixes that worked for me, I had the same problem you're describing now.

you might consider this
I had bad problems as well in my 84, and I just swapped out the cluster for a known good one. Got a good price from a guy on this forum and all is now well. Now I have my original that I can work on if I want to experiment.
