Default Performance Mystery

I have an unexplained improvement in my LT-1 '96 that is strange because it shouldn't have happened.

The background is a water pump change out has caused the engine to run smoother, idle better and break loose at 40 mph on the downshift to the point of being scary and engaging ASR. The sotp is quite noticeable.

I disconnected the battery for a week. The new stock thermostat bumped the temps to 190-195. How can a new waterpump make this happen? No complaining...I just analyze everything with cars. Maybe better connection on some plugs on the intake? Computer relearn? I did clean 1/8 inch of grease off the front of the engine and opti. Never had such collateral improvement on stock part replacement and can't figure it out. What the heck, I have healing powers!

Mine seems to gain a lot of power every time I wax it. I can't explain it either.
