Mackey...not trying to pick a fight, but vigilante is not the only converter made that works good.
I think I would use that converter if I had it...since my stock 87 converter stalls at about 1400 RPM.
Hey ski_swn_it...what RPM can you get the engine to go to when you powerbrake the stock converter? I think that will tell if you would have seen a difference, had you decided to install it.
I decided to wait till a later date to install it or maybe I will just get a vilgilanti like I planned on doing eventually anyways. I will let you all know if I do decide to get one. Thanks you all for your advice, even you mackey ;) Sorry I went off last night, I have been on edge lately as we just sold our company to GE and I have been pretty edgy lately waiting for everything to go through. I understand that you were just trying to help and your comment about not reading was not indented for the way I took it. I just pride myself on trying to learn as much as possible before asking for help. As you can see the intent of the thread was to just bring to light some tricks that you guys may have come up with to make the job easier. Not to ask if the Summit converter was camparable to a protorque or a vigilante. I am not that stupid :p: Nevertheless, thanks for your input. As for the rest of you, thank you all too.

The vigilante works great for a strip/ street convertor but so do the Pro torque and many other in that 9.5 range that still have lock up.
However the driveability of these convertors are so good on the street you can go to a much higher stall than you would think possible. Thats why they are worth the money over the lower stall 11" + convertors.
What ever stall is you think is right for your car, you could go 500 to 800 higher without loosing driveability.
It's all about know how you want your car to perform.
Good luck again, John
