I have never seen anyone post that they were able to successfully replace the plastic without changing the top itself. There are some products that can restore the plastic back to a somewhat better condition.
I just replaced the whole top and converted it to a glass top. But I had a rather ratty white vinyl top and I wanted a black cloth top instead. Not easy, but problem permanently solved.
Any good upholostry shop can sew a new plastic window in for you.
Can usually get it done for aroond 75 to 100 dollars, with you doing the R&R on the top. Im at the same point as you with my current top. I want to find a piece of tinted plastic window and sew that in.
BTW.... If you decide to sew in a new window, when taking the top off, DO NOT cut out the old window. The new window is sewn in next to it, then the old window is trimmed out.
