I have had corvettes and miata's for many years. Most Corvette people
have never been in a Miata and don't know how grear they handle. They just know that they aren't fast. I like my vette but a Miata with a turbo would put a whipping on a lot of vettes and they would be hard pressed to catch it on a twisty road. Most corvette owners could only dream of going that fast and
having a car with such reliablality. Miata's run forever with not much maintance
needed. I will end by saying, I love my Miata, but it is a blast to feel the power
of my 94 6 speed vette going through the gears.
sell them both and buy a newer vette with all the mods.
i agree with this!!! i will meekly admit to owning a miata for 6 months before i traded it towards my 92. miatas are fun little 1-nut, no hair on the "scro" cars, but they can't compare to a vette. its like comparing a hot dog to a 20oz. steak.... i'd sell both and buy a 97-98 c5 or a 91-96 c4 and a pickup....that's how a lot of us Texicans do it....
I understand your whole daily driver with the Miata, and I must say your daily driver is a little better than mine. But, keep the daily driver a daily driver... and leave the 2 grand for the vette! Why make your miata faster than your vette, kind of degradding don't you think??? How would you feel if some miata pulled up to you in your vette, and rolled you out??? (no, I've never been had by a miata, nor will I!!!!!)....enjoy the short shifter on your mazda, and leave the vette for dates, and late night cruises....
$2000.00 is pretty optimistic on either package. By the time you get the bugs worked out of the mods and realibity is going to go down on either one compared to stock. Just be careful if you wont have any more money to spend on your project if something goes wrong. Good luck
Well the way I see it is this. If you put the turbo on the Miata you'll make it fairly quick, but it will still be a turbo lag plauged import. If you spend the money on the Vette it will make you appreciate it that much more when you do drive it.
realibity is going to go down on either one compared to stock.
I'm afraid I'll have to argue that one. If you carefully choose your mods and know what you are doing, you won't effect reliability one little bit.
Nathan,
When you raise the redline, or add boost to a stock bottom end, it might well take it and hold up, but the odds are more likely that something is going to break sooner then if it was left stock.

Keeping the TPI will not raise the redline much. It will have more power all the way to redline though. Just because the "factory" didn't do it, doesn't mean it is less reliable. The factory has to please the Govt., and a wide base of consumers. If parts are properly selected, installed, and maintained, there shouldn't be any more reliability problems than stock.
I'll agree with you somewhat. But if you upgrade the required components as part of the system reliability won't go down. I turn 6300 rpms on my stock bottom end and make 336 horsepower as opposed to my stock 269 horsepower. I drive it every day and the only problem I have had has been a dead battery.
I'll agree that if you add too much boost you can blow it up, etc. But when I think mods, I think of the whole system. Doing something half assed can get you in trouble, but carefully thought out and done properly and you can actually have a vehicle that is more reliable, if you use better quality components.
