Does anybody know the meaning of the color codes on front springs on LT1 cars? The repair manual lists blue, yellow and green. My friends 95 ZR1 has the green code, my 94 coupe, the color code is worn off as well as the spring code tag. According to gm parts, via my vin#, my spring code is "HA". I was wondering if that corrolates to a specific color code? Also, why does different color codes require shims? Are the springs different thicknesses?
I'm working in the dusty area of the brain right now so I think this is right.
The colors on the spring denote the size & number of shims that need to be under the spring. The letters "stamped" (actually cast) in the spring denote it's rate.
Arisa is right, the color specifies how many shims above the front spring, and above/below the rear spring. I guess this is due to spring manufacturing tolerances, and trying to get all cars to sit at the same ride height???
There is no correlation btwn the color code and the spring code.
